First stage

(1883-1888)

The main part of the collection were the fossils collected by Grigore Cobâlcescu for the creation of the first geological monography written in romanian.

The paper „Studii geologice și paleontologice asupra unor tărâmuri terțiare din unele părți ale României” has been published in „Memoriile geologice ale Școalei Militare” from Iași, in 1883. Theren the author described 100 species from Sarmațian and Pliocen.

The author did not had a proper space to deposit the fossils at the Univeristy so he deposited the material at the Military School from Iași, where he was a teacher.
